Hotep (Peace) Usisahau Community!
The month of May is significant for many things. Speaking colloquially, we should reap May flowers as a result of the April showers previously forecasted. During May, flowers are presented to women for Mother’s Day; adorned at Women’s Day services in the Black church tradition; given to high school students during prom season; and presented at graduation celebrations. May exposes us to the sights, sounds and experiences of Spring. The evidence of growth and renewal can be seen on the landscapes of our homes and communities. For storytelling during May, we encourage you to reflect on and share messages about honoring women, growth and renewal.
Mother’s Day
We recognize that Mother’s Day can be fraught with mixed emotions. Societal messages for Mother’s Day highlight joyful images but the reality is several experience mixed emotions. We encourage you to care for yourself during this season based on your lived experiences, family dynamics and historical and/or current realities.
